How long will it take for me to get in touch with a therapist?

Typically, a therapist will follow up with your initial contact within 24 - 48 hours.

Are all therapists licensed?

Yes, all therapists at Solid Ground Counseling are licensed by the State of Michigan to provide mental health services in accordance with their degree and specific license.

We also may have Graduate Student Master Level Interns available who are fulfilling their required practicum hours in the final stages of their degree. They are not able to bill insurance, but can provide services at a reduced out of pocket session rate.

How long will I have to wait for my first session?

This depends on your availability and the schedule of your therapist. On average, you can expect to get an initial appointment scheduled within a week. The more open your availability is, the sooner you may get one scheduled.

What do I need to bring to the first session?

Unless otherwise requested by your therapist, you need to bring your ID, insurance card, and intake form to the first session.

What can I expect in the first session?

Each therapist may have a different approach. However, the first session is usually spent getting to gathering history, reason for treatment, and simply getting to know each other.

If I have a co-pay, how and when do I pay it?

Co-pays are due at the time of service unless otherwise stated by your therapist. You may pay by cash, check, or credit card.

What if I feel like I’m not a good fit with my therapist?

We encourage you to address this issue with you therapist. However, we understand that sometimes it just really isn’t a good fit. If this is the case, your therapist will gladly provide referrals so you can receive the help you need.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

No problem at all. If you provide your therapist with a 24-hour notice there will be no charge. Last minute cancelations may be subject to a cancelation fee. Missed sessions with no notification will be subject to the entire session fee (insurance companies do not pay for no call/no show).

How can I communicate with my therapist?

That is between you and your therapist. Email and office voice mail is available with all therapists. Some therapists may communicate with their cell phone. If you choose to communicate via cell phone, please do not text ANY therapy or health related information.
